Places Please Victorian Community Theatre Conference Saturday 26th July 2008 Brunswick Town Hall Crn Sydney Rd & Dawson St Brunswick 3056 Registration begins 8:15am for 9am start, finishes 5:30pm. Tickets: Adult $50, Conc $35. Places Please Community Theatre Conference is an event exploring what is happening in community theatre today and how we can sustain it for the future. Community theatre is theatre by made the people for the people, and is, essentially, the foundation of theatre in all its guises – high art, performance art, street theatre and so on. This conference celebrates, explores and investigates the hard work and passion of community theatre practitioners and offers suggestions on how to make the art form stronger for the future. Our Keynote Speaker, Graham Pitts will discuss his work, both here and internationally with community arts and how his professional work has enabled him to feed his passion for community and theatre. Other Presenters include Ben Laden – Geelong Courthouse Youth Arts discussing the importance of Mentorship for young and emerging artists; Xris Reardon from Third Way Theatre is presenting on the Role of Community in Community Theatre and how each effect the other; The Mental Health Act will present a play as part of their topic on theatre with people for & by people with Mental Illness; Katrina Rank will be presenting on the topic of Choreography’s relationship to a script; Tom Padula – Italian Theatre Company, will discuss bi-lingual and multi-cultural theatre; Edwina Entwistle is presenting a discussion on how to begin and produce a play from scratch; Westside Circus will run a circus skills workshop; Darren Brealey, a published playwright will be running a Writers Workshop, and Gordon Boyd will also be running a workshop on Stage Lighting.
