Melville Theatre are holding auditions on June 22 at 2.00pm at their theatre for their one act play season. I am casting for "The Author's Voice" by Richard Greenberg. This comic gem deals with the ambiguous relationship between a writer and his muse. A shaggy yarn about the pursuit of 15 minutes of fame. One female, two males. "Portia" attractive (late 20's/early 30's) publishing editor, "Todd" good looking (same age range) Portia's latest writing protege (this character originally played by Kevin Bacon in the Broadway production) and finally "Gene" no particular age range, described in the play as "a horribly twisted gnome" (this character previously played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, also on Broadway. Please contact me for further details 9527 1968 or email to geoffandlynleeder@bigpond.com or go the Company's audition notice on this website. There are two other one act plays being cast, lots of roles up for the taking. We encourage newcomers.

A Marriage Proposal

The second play being cast is Chekhov's "A Marriage Proposal" English version by Theodore Hoffman. This fast paced "Joke in one act" sees hypochondriac Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov calling on his elderly neighbour Stepan Stepanovitch Chubokov, to ask for the hand of his daughter, Natalia Stepanovna, in marriage. Hoffman dscribes the characters as... Chubokov - a landowner, elderly, pompous but affable. Lomov - healthy, but a hypochondriac; nervous, suspicious. Also a landowner. 35 Natalia - 25 but still unmarried. The director can be contacted at jeffhansen@virginbroadband.com.au
