Coram Boy

The Midnite Youth Theatre Company, in association with the Anglican Church and the Playhouse Theatre, is presenting the Australian premiere of Coram Boy from 18 – 22 April (preview 17 April). Coram Boy is adapted by Helen Edmundson from the prize-winning children’s book by Jamila Gavin and is the tale of two boys at the Coram Hospital for deserted children. The story tells of the slave-trade in unwanted children. The scenes move between the opulence of country estates and drawing rooms of high-society London to the squalor of the Bristol Docks to concerts conducted by Handel! The play, directed by Anthony Howes, features two of WA’s leading actors – Michael Loney and Caroline McKenzie – with organist Stuart Smith who has arranged Handel’s music which interweaves Coram Boy. The cast includes 60 actors, singers and musicians from the Midnite Youth Theatre Company.
