Service interruptions and thanks!
Wed, 19 Mar 2008, 04:35 pmJust a quick note in between some service interruptions. You may notice that the site bounces up and down a little bit over the next week or so. Sometimes working fine, sometimes not at all. After more than ten years of generous support our hosts at Informed Technology have sold their hosting business and will no longer be able to host the site free of charge. I'm busily making arrangements for a new home and will post back again as soon as we're up and running.
Stephen Darragh and Andrew Howell at Informed Technology have never asked for any particular recognition for their contribution to Australian theatre online but they have tirelessly and patiently responded to my support requests at all times of day and night and have never complained as the site's popularity has grown from month to month and year to year consuming more and more of their valuable server space and bandwidth. We're regularly publishing 1.25 million pages per month often amounting to more than 40 gigabytes of traffic per month - try looking around for a web host offering this sort of capability, multiply that by ten years and you'll quickly get a picture of the value of their commitment.
You should notice no change, except that you may be logged out and the site may occasionally be unavailable. I will need to take it down for a couple of hours at some stage, but I'll post a notice of the outage and will try to schedule it for some ridiculous early hour of the morning to minimise inconvenience. There should be no serious impact to the site during migration and there will be no loss of information.
Cheers
Grant
