Scheherazade is the tale of a woman trying to melt the heart of a king. The Shah has lost at love after discovering his wife to be unfaithful and orders her death. The powerful Shah enjoys various marriages thereafter and each wife’s fate is sealed to the same conclusion, unless she can prove that she will remain forever faithful. Scheherazade has devised a clever plan to intrigue her new husband, so that she may prove her love and loyalty to her king and bring an end to the ruler’s suffering to all womankind.
The plot is based on the ancient fables of the famous storyteller Aesop, who is synonymous with Arabian myth and legend. Many of the fables were included in, or through time have become attached to, his tale of Scheherazade which has enthralled and inspired mankind through the past millennium. Scheherazade ignores the well known stories of Aladdin and Sinbad and humorously portrays some of the lesser known tales attached to this legendary story, incorporating a comical modern flair.
Directed by Bruce Denny, Scheherazade will also feature belly dancers Shafira and Aziza among other enchanting dancers who have been aptly named Shazza’s Shakers for this show. Last performed ten years ago in Kalgoorlie, Denny says “the Swan Valley Oasis Resort, with its natural scenery and delightful attributes, is the ideal venue for this colourful middle eastern tale”.
Patrons are asked to bring a picnic blanket, cushions and hamper to enjoy whilst watching the show. Hampers can be pre-ordered from the venue in advance, or patrons can bring their own, the venue is fully licensed which means there is no byo alcohol. Alternatively patrons can enjoy the sumptuous food by dining at the restaurant before the show, bookings essential.
