CASTING CALL - UTS MASTERS FILM, "Pictures of Anna"

CASTING CALL! We are looking for talented actors & extras for UTS Masters film, "Pictures of Anna" scheduled for filming in Sydney during the month of April. This is a 15-minute film with a non-linear, dream-like structure. It is an experiment toward the use of pure, dramatic cinematic language to tell a story and explore character. Shooting dates are from 4/4/08 - 20/4/08 (Friday night and weekends only). Storyline: Anna works in an inner city brothel. Sharing a terrace house with fifteen other girls, Anna has become accustomed to the steady flow of strangers that walk through the door. In between clients, much of Anna's days consist of passing the time by watching daytime television, reading magazines and chain smoking. Years earlier, nineteen-year old Anna is living with her mother and younger sister Elise in a tiny housing commission unit. Without any immediate life aspirations, Anna sleeps through most of her days and then chats on-line when she wakes. Fueled by ever-increasing feeling of disconnection toward her family, Anna goes out night after night to party with men that use and demean her. Progressively, Anna's futile quest for male affirmation leads to more and more reckless choices until one night Anna submits to having sex with two strangers. Realising she is unable to speak with, or even face her mother when it matters the most, Anna leaves home and never returns. -------------- Central Characters: ANNA (Lead is already cast). MICHAEL (Male, 20-25years, Anna's friend): Michael is quiet, cool and unassuming. Although one to happily follow the pack, Michael cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening to his friend Anna. JOLENE (Female, 20-25years, Anna's best friend): Unruly, extroverted, flirtatious. Jolene is confident and domineering with the males in her life. At present, her life consists of one night stands and binge drinking. ELISE (Female, 14-18years, Asian Ethnicity -Chinese preferable- Anna's younger sister): Presently caught up in the pains of the teenage years, Elise is secretive and despondent. She lives a double life outside of the family home. As she is growing older, she is worryingly starting to resemble her older sister Anna. ANNA'S MOTHER (Female, 45-55years, Asian Ethnicity - Chinese preferable): Anna's mother is unemotional, detached, and conservative. She has worked in blue-collar jobs for years for her family. Years of pain and hurt are harboured underneath the cold exterior. Smaller Parts (Unscripted dialogue): BROTHEL GIRLS (Female, age range 12-50 yrs, all looks & ethnicities): These are the mysterious girls and women of this old house, each which hold their own story... BROTHEL CLIENTS (Male, age range 20-65years, all looks): The nameless clients who frequent this illegal brothel have particular tastes which often extend to young teenage girls. ANNA'S GROUP (Male & Female, 20-27years): Unruly and all big drinkers, this large group of friends congregate at city bars and pool halls until late into the night. MEN IN UNKNOWN ROOM (Male, 30-35years, all looks): These two friends in their mid thirties have ordinary blue-collar jobs during the week, but sometimes visit local haunts in hope of meeting younger girls. THE NEW GUYS (Male, 25-30years, all looks & ethnicities): These three old school mates are confident, mischievous, and have no problems meeting the ladies. One of the boys however is a bit of a loose canon. ------- This is unpaid work. However, this is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring talent to be part of something exciting and challenging. "Pictures of Anna" will be entered into numerous festivals nationally and abroad. Furthermore, you will be working with an ambitious and professionally-minded crew who are all passionate about the script.
