Garrick Theatre Club is proud to present the hilarious production This Way Up, written by renowned playwright Elizabeth Coleman as their first season for 2008. Directed by Karen Woodcock this WA premiere performance will open at the Garrick Theatre on February 1st for a three week season. Elizabeth Coleman also wrote the highly popular productions Secret Bridesmaid’s Business and It’s My Party and I’ll Die If I Want To.
Melanie has had enough!! Her Journo boyfriend, Nick, prefers to visit the Worlds’ political hotspots rather than stay at home and live the 9 to 5 life. There’s only so much a girl can take, so she’s decided to move out. Damien, who’s Nick’s best friend, is showing dangerous signs of infatuation with Mel and at the same time, Kris, Mel’s Sister is really keen on Damien. Nick arrives home unexpectedly and catches Mel packing. Krissy is trying to psychoanalyse the situation rather than being any practical help. Just as things seem to be settling down, a crisis next door arises and the foursome find themselves trapped inside the house together. What unfolds is a very funny play about relationships and love gone wrong.
Director Karen Woodcock says “I have a wonderfully talented cast and crew, most of whom have won awards for their craft including my husband who has built a marvellous set.” Woodcock continues to say “I do like the message that each character brings to the stage. It’s going to be a fabulous production”.
This Way Up is suitable for general adult audiences and will open at the Garrick on Friday 1st February with a three week season concluding on February 16. All shows commence at 8pm excluding a Sunday matinee performance on February 3rd commencing at 2pm.
