Hi Guys! First off I'd like to thank you all for this awsome site! I have already gained a little knowledge of the mountain that is out there! I am fifteen years of age and I am extremely interested into getting into acting/performing. I am interested in stage and screen acting, anything to do with a performance really. I am currently studying at John Curtin College of the Arts in the drama specialist program. Apart from auditions and a small school film, I have never done acting infront of a camera. I have some experience in singing and 13 years of dance. I was wondering if anyone could suggest workshops, classes etc in the Perth area that would be of use to me to gain experience and better myself. If it has already been covered it would much appreciated if you could tell me where? Also I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about Actors Now and Actors Management? I have read throught their classes and what I can of their websites, but any feedback from actors who have been there done that would be awsome! Cheers! Emily

Take a look at our FAQ

Take a look at our FAQ section for an excellent article on how to get an agent and what to expect from them. Furthermore, please see this thread, which lists some excellent points on how to get started in this industry. Please see the following thread: http://www.theatre.asn.au/green_room_gossip/hallo_lovely_peoples_nathan_is_in_the_lounge_im_new Additionally: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use the links at the top of the page (companies, auditions, FAQs), before posting a "work wanted/how do I get into theatre" thread. There are lists and lists of companies, all over Australia, as well as auditions. The SEARCH function is the best way to find what you need to know, BECAUSE WE'VE ALREADY ANSWERED THESE QUESTIONS BEFORE. I am refusing to add any more to the conversation, as I am now thoroughly sick of answering these posts, and will now only provide a stock-standard cut-and-paste answer. I have read alot of those

I have read alot of those and thanks they are awsome. We really do need that kind of advice. Its just like what Sean had said. Theres so much stuff here its hard to go through everything. Not to be rude but I was actually looking for stuff specific to Perth as in suggestions for great workshops and classes that people have tried. Thought that this place would be the best start, there's many of you guys who are so experienced. Hope that cleared up my post a little better... Emily

Hi Emily, The PAC Screen

Hi Emily,

The PAC Screen Workshops (screenworkshop.com.au) have an excellent rep, although they're probably only for over-18s - it might be worth emailing Annie to check!

There's also Stage Door which probably has some summer holiday MT programs (http://stagedoorschool.com).

Annie Stainer's Total Theatre offers weekend courses (http://www.totaltheatre.com.au/) in physical theatre.

And for circus skills there's the WA Circus School (aka Bizircus, http://www.circuswa.com/wacs/).

If you're still stuck for ideas, try checking the bios of actors your age on agents' websites and see if they've done any courses that interest you.

As for agents, there's a rundown of the three major Perth agencies in this thread.

Good luck!

I realise you are looking

I realise you are looking for Perth specific stuff - and my suggestions are still valid. There are any number of threads already started on this site about good classes to take in that area. Also, unlike many of the other members on this site, I'm one of the few Melbournians. So I can't really offer good advice on Perth-related places, since I've never been to Perth and don't work there. I leave that part of the advice to others, who do. I apologise if I come across as bitchy or whatever, it's just replying to all these posts gets a little repetitive. Most of the regular members have stopped replying, because of the repetition, but I try to keep doing it. It does however, grate on me occasionally. agents and classes

A lot of agencies have classes as well such as Actors Now, Frog and Actors Management they are agents but they are classes too. From personal experience I enjoyed 'Filmbites' otherwise known as 'Filmbites Youth Film School' they are situated in Wangara. Depending on what you're interested you can do classes such as Animation, Skit, Acting for Film, Music Video Clips, so on so on. For example in the acting classes you learn various techniques - like script, acting warmups (focus) so on so on. and in the classes you make short films which are used in many local and international competitions. As well as that they will also find you acting jobs. Hope that helps! Good Luck Samantha Brajdic, WA. I've been to various acting

I've been to various acting workshops and classes over the years and, frankly, I've learnt far more by actually getting involved in productions on stage. And all that costs you is a small fee for membership to the theatre (usually around $20) rather than the hundreds you need to pay for these various courses.
