A CELEBRATION of Christmas around the world comes to Fremantle's Kings Square from 6pm, Friday, November 30, to help launch the festive season in the port city. In collaboration with Kulcha, the City of Fremantle presents a free family concert featuring everything from a monks’ Christmas blessing, young refugee actors and African drumming right through to the Joys of the Women Choir, Trio Allegra and funky reggae fusion from Grace Barbe. Fremantle Mayor Peter Tagliaferri will also be on hand to kick off the festivities, leading the annual procession to the Esplanade around 7pm to turn on the Christmas lights with Santa Claus and fairies joining him along the way. Journeying through the South Terrace Piazza, the mayor will stop to launch a special wishing tree at The Pickled Fairy & Other Myths – people can write their Christmas wishes for children of the world on paper baubles and hang them on the tree. “The theme of this event really embraces the fact that Fremantle is a multicultural city and that’s something that should be celebrated,” Mayor Tagliaferri said. “I’m looking forward to a big crowd joining us, from all walks of life, young and old, to come along and really get involved with the festivities. “With the Fremantle Village Art Market also in full swing and Friday night shopping really alive, this is another fantastic reason to come to Fremantle and enjoy everything we have on offer. “Using Christmas around the world as the concert theme, it highlights the strength in our diversity and how it’s enriched our lives for the better, promoting tolerance and greater understanding.” The CAT bus service has also been extended until 9pm Fridays, starting November 30, so people can come to Fremantle and enjoy the Christmas concert using public transport.
