Please help: Chekhov's "The Three Sisters" audition scam

Ok, so i need help in tracking down people who were asked to audition for a community theatre production of "the three sisters" on wednesday 17th Oct 2007 at either West Pymble Community hall or another hall in North Sydney. This audition was a scam. the three women who were dressed in drag were members of a destructive cult named Kenja and they stalked me and lured me under false pretences to the community hall to audition for this "production". A witness told me that there were other women who auditioned. I really need to find these people. If anyone has any information about anyone who auditioned, please reply asap. They are attempting to track down/stalk ex-cult members and intimidate them. This is frightening and illegal, and must be stopped. Thanks in advance. Alison

I don't get it... Exactly

I don't get it... Exactly what happened at the audition, and what were you asked to do? A quick Google found this on Kenja: http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/PARLMENT/hansArt.nsf/V3Key/LC19921124035 And how can they track down ex-cult members through an audition process? That implies that a) ex-cult members would all apply, and b) that they expect ex-cult members to apply. Maybe you should also post the original audition information (if you can find it), which would help in locating other people who would have attended, as well as figure out how to avoid/recognise them next time. Additionally, if they are really from the cult, and/or there is public interest in exposing them/investigating them, then the info should probably be forwarded to relevant authorities. EDIT: Please also see this page!!!! i was invited by someone

i was invited by someone posing as a "friend of a friend" who was in theatre, putting on a production in the coming months. i went there, at night, and was met with three cult members (including the leader) all dressed in wigs, glasses and moustaches. i left the cult on very bad terms, i was severely mistreated and went to the police. this was an attempt to scare me and threaten me, and it worked. i was terrified. i am just trying to see if anyone else knows about this because i have heard that they held auditions for other women (non cult members) to try and legitimise their "production". the only information i was given was that it was going to be held at the west pymble community hall at 8.15 on wednesday the 17th of October, and the play was for chekhov's the three sisters.

Disturbing

It is somewhat disturbing to think of a group like this resorting to scams such as this. One of the co-founders of Kenja - Ken Dyers - recently committed (Late July) suicide in what cult members are calling extreme pressure from the authorities and press. Fellow Founder Jan Hamilton, claims that the group will go on. Obviously, they are still holding on even though reports and articles about the group have dwindled since August.

What it shows however is that it is very hard to tell the difference between a legitimate audition and a potential and dangerous scam. Never give out your personal details freely. Personally, I tend to provide details that I know I can control like a yahoo or hotmail email address that does not link to extensive personal details about myself. Where I live, my home phone number and other similar details I leave out. Permanently if I can, or until I am fully satisfied that my personal and family safety is assured.

thanks Jeff. yes i surely will be more careful in future, but i have been to auditions like this before, passed on by word of mouth, so i wasn't as suspicious as i should have been. i didnt give them information, but they had it anyway from me being involved with them. they are an evil and destructive group and should be avoided at all costs. BUT if anyone went to this audition or knows someone who did, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. any information at all would be very helpful.

Additionally, you could

Additionally, you could also forward on your concerns to all of the major arts/theatre news sites, who could both help you put a call out to other auditionees, as well as warn others. I highly recommend sending it to the content dept. at Arts Hub, as they would have the widest audience. Email it to news @ artshub.com.au (I can also give you a name of a specific person at their news desk if you like) Sticky Apple Legs www.freewebs.com/stickyapplelegs Puppets in Melbourne www.thepromptcopy.com/pip My puppets www.collectzing.com/collection/137/

I didn't find any

I didn't find any information on any website (using Google, so while it could be out there somewhere, I think it's highly unlikely), including this one, about the audition. From the sounds of it, yes, they were targeting ex-cult members specifically, via word-of-mouth promotions for the 'audition'. I just voted this up.

I just voted this up. What an absolutely horrible experience. I'm in shock that groups like this really exist, for one, and also that despite all that media attention Kenja is still so active. Best of luck, Alison!

Stay strong, Alison!

You poor kid! Congratulations on having got away from them. Stay strong and don't let them get you down. I hope there is someone close to you who you can talk to. We are all cheering you on. Sue.
