Na7 posts in thread
I was just browsing the profiles of people who are members on this site, and have come across some under 18s who have their phone numbers listed. I would just like to suggest strongly that anyone of a young age (or anyone at all really) to remove phone numbers listed in their profiles or on any of their posts - and to not reveal their phone numbers on this site. There are a lot of dodgy people out there, and it's never a good idea to have traceable information about yourself listed on the net - ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE UNDER 18. Please, create an email address for free, or use the internal messaging system on this site, as it allows a lot more anonymity and safety on your part. Some people may not care, or wonder why I'm butting in, but I hope this will serve as a reminder to the younger members of this site of just how much information can be found on the net, and how easy it is for weirdos to track you down. ... Can people please vote for this thread so it can appear on the front page? Thanks!

IN TOTAL AGGREEMENT

As ridiulous as "Na's" warning may seem, she is speaking an invaluable truth.

Please people (young and mature alike)  think very carefully about how much personal material you post in ANY 'Personal Details" page.... not just here, but anywhere that you may visit.

Our friend was being very diplomatic when she refered to the possible "nasties" in cyber space as being "dodgy" ..... my word would have been "criminal"....

Picture this.... a person posts her (or his) details in all innocence on a website.... She/He gets a phone call...

"Hi, we are shooting a major film near Perth, one of our team is ill and we spotted your bio on the local theatre website. You sound like just what we are looking for. Do you have an agent we can contact?? NO?? Damn... that's a pity... Look... I probably shouldn't be doing this, but would you mind coming over for a screen test anyway?? No, Sorry, your parents can't be there, it's a closed set for security reasons. You wouldn't? Okay then, I can see your point. but.... well.....Look I'll be honest here,  we really need to find someone in a hurry and your bio reads like you would be perfect and you would be doing us a HUGE favour....."

"Are you sure??..... Look, that's great!!!  You are really helping us out of bind!!... See you at 10 AM at .............."

 Sound surreal?

Thinking, "No-one would be that gullible."?

Thinking, "Bullsh*t, that couldn't happen here!"?

Then think again.... it can and has.

Even though the webmaster and mediators of this site do everything in their collective power to try to protect you from spam, viruses and hoax's... They cannot possibly protect you from yourselves...

Take Na's advice... dont put a contact number in your details unless you are completely sure that you can deal with ALL the calls you get... if you have your number listed, you are not as anonymous or safe as you may think you are.....

Believe me.... this lady is passing on VERY sound advice.

I myself am a recent victim

I myself am a recent victim of stalking and luring to a fake audition and i must reiterate what the original poster and the post above have said. Even as an adult woman it is often very difficult to see whether an offer is legitimate or not. Please take care with your personal details.

Also recently on tv there

Also recently on tv there was a report that showed someone create a false identity and credit card account using information in a profile that could be picked up in under 7 minutes by a few clicks. Full names, birthdays, phone number, locations, addresses can all lead to making false identities. So BOTH young and old take heart, listen to the pleas of the above because it is a worthy cause. DOdgy Calls

I've had a few calls from people in the past which were just bizzarre. Twice I had the same guy call my number about 1&1/2 years apart (Apparently my number was similar to his contact) for a certain servicing of a lady down the suburbs way. Once convincing him that I wasn't the guy he talked to the other day he then offered me the job... Another more scary call was someone wanting me to turn up to an address to talk over a business prospect. When pressured into some details he said he wasn't prepared to discuss them over the phone. "Can you give me even a broad topic on what perhaps it might entail?" - No. Then he was getting mildly annoyed that I might not go and see if the offer was worth while or not. I laughed. You're not getting me out of my house for no reason at all! Not that this is to become a forum for the scary people experiences or to give anyone any ideas. Na's point is real - and I just seek to keep it at the front of the billboards for a little longer. ...Gotta dance while you breathe... Luke
