Worst play

I read the review. Pretty savage =0( It's a stark contrast to Gordon's one anyway.

Bad Reviewers

I have seen a general trend in the reviews in the West. They tend to favour certain theatres and then smiply slam the rest. Even shows that seem to get rave reviews elsewhere. I rarely read them anymore.

Ron Banks - a man of questionable theatre knowledge. I recall him describing the musical "Nine" as Australian.

Sleeping and Reviewing

Many years ago I observed from the bio box, Mr Banks sleeping soundly through three quarters of a show. He then wrote an in depth review of it. I have not taken him seriously since!

I'm sure that review will account for more bums on seats than a good one.

No publicity is bad

No publicity is bad publicity! Gordon's review also sounded very positive! Hope all is going well for the season. Sean ____________________________________________________________ Currently working on: A nice break before jumping into my next project.

Another perspective

Thanks, Sean. Here is a different review from Xpress: Xpress Magazine 27.09.07 Nathan Scolaro “Caroline Gopalkrishnan and Shirley Van Sanden have written a brutally honest script…” “Flatland is an intriguing piece of theatre.” “If Cheek’s intent was to leave the audience shaken-up and susceptible to ghastly nightmares, then my hat goes off to the man: I was scared to go to sleep.” “Judd’s eerie “meeeeoooow” and tormenting stutter had the entire audience perched on the edge of their seats. And Lee’s creepy gestures and facial expressions were enough to make your stomach turn 360 degrees.” “The set design by Nick Yaksich was simple, yet effective.” “The intimate set mirrored one of the plays key issues: how close should you get to the people who live inches away? Let’s just say the question was well and truly answered by the end of the show.” “Flatland will not appeal to everyone. It’s dark, it’s provocative and it’s straight out creepy. But it does carry an important message about public and private space.”

Xpress review

Nathan Scolaro also wrote: "Unfortunately the tension-breaking scenes weren't executed as effectively as they could have been. The cast needed to inject more light and shade into their performance... portrayal of Ella was particularly one-dimensional and a little over the top."

It really sounds like a very interesting show...especially if people can't sleep after it! I would be interested in seeing it. Not only because I can't sleep at the moment anyway! Sounds very interesting. ____________________________________________________________ Currently working on: A nice break before jumping into my next project.
