BACK again for 2007-08 is the hugely popular Fremantle Village Art Market, bigger and better than ever before. Now in its fourth year, the eclectic and effervescent mix of stallholders, entertainers, workshops and crafts in Kings Square has been expanded to two days a week, operating 10am-5pm Thursdays and 10am-7.30pm Fridays. This year’s season kicks off on Friday, September 28, tying in with the start of Friday night shopping in Fremantle and launch of the Fremantle Festival poster, then continuing every Thursday and Friday from October 4 and 5. Market Coordinator Kylie Wheatley’s enthusiasm has seen the Fremantle Village Art Market continue to grow and attract greater numbers of people each year – and she’s excited about what’s in store this season. “There’s going to be even more bands this year with lunchtime concerts on both days and an evening concert at 6pm Fridays,” she said. “Several market favourites have already been booked, including Lucky Oceans, Lee Sappho, Pete Stone, Loren, Freya Hanley, Natalie Gillespie and The Groovesmiths, and we start with the Kastany Duo for our first Friday concert. “Our fabulous Village Café is also back again, along with our popular drum workshops, kids’ crafts and tai chi lessons. “And there’s plenty of room for more stalls, to add to the wonderful array we have already, for people who make or design their own products. “This season we’re also sponsoring a stall of art work by the homeless, along with their Street Beat art classes on Thursdays. Ms Wheatley said each market day highlighted Fremantle’s diverse cultural kaleidoscope, showing exactly why the port city is such a vibrant place to be. “As always, the market gives local artists a supportive, fun prosperous day under the fig trees and opportunities for the community to shop locally and meet friends in the heart of Fremantle,” she said. “There’s such a great atmosphere in Kings Square when the market is on and I’m pleased our continuing program has something for everyone in there, ready to keep people entertained in all sorts of ways.” All the latest information about what’s coming up on market days and how to get involved can be accessed at the websites www.fremantlefestivals.com and www.villageartmarket.com. The Fremantle Village Art Market will run every Thursday and Friday until the end of April, 2008. • For more information, contact Market Coordinator Kylie Wheatley on 0405 307 129 and e-mail kyliew@fremantle.wa.gov.au or kylie@redtentevents.com.au.
