Recently, A lad in sane productions were forced to cancel their production of 'Bargain Burials' (The Old Mill Theatre October 2007) because we couldn't find enough blokes to take part! Somewhat disapointed, I decided that I'd twig the script, re-setting it in Ireland, this in the hope we could possibly attract enough Irish and British actors to put the thing on. Trouble was, the more I thought about it, the more I realised that I didn't want to change the bloody setting mate! This was a 'you beaut Aussie play!' So what to do about nothing? We can't find enough Aussie blokes so what can we do?...Hey! What if we can find Sheila's to play the parts of Aussie blokes? Behind every good bloke, is his missus! Who knows, they might like the opportunity to talk about the footy, and how fast their bloody ute is. So what do yer reckon! Give it a go mate! What you got to lose? So here we are, testing the waters so to speak, to see if in fact we can find enough Sheila's to play the parts of Kev and Shane - 25 - 35 years of age), Bob, Stewie and Davo (50-60), the local priest (40-60) and a flash business man (40). So we're calling on you ladies who might be intersted in giving it a go, I mean it's alright for that pommy Shakespeare company to have blokes playing women, time we Aussies got our own back don't yer reckon? The main criteria we're looking for is that a: you gotta have a strine accent (the priest can be Irish or English, and the business man is flexible) but the others, are pure green and gold! Now, at this stage I don't have any dates for yer, cos we had to cancel the booking (bugger!) but I'm really keen to see this play up there on the stage at sometime in the near future, so if we get enough interest we'll find a theatre..note: It may be sometime in the summer next year, cos theatre's are pretty busy right now, but if you're not going to Bali round that time, maybe you can join us? If you'd like more info, give me a call on 9355 5591 or e-mail me at johnnygrim@optusnet.com.au. Johnny Grim A lad in sane productions
