DramaFest 2007 update
Sat, 11 Aug 2007, 02:29 pmAN UPDATE ON DRAMAFEST 07.
Well, not exactly an up date, as up to today (August 11th) there isn't very much to report!
So far we have had just ONE actual entry form returned for this - thanks Arena.
As the offical closing date for entries is next Friday August 17th the ITA is hoping that the postman will be groaning under the weight of deliveries this coming week!
Come on all you club Secretaries, chase up your tardy directors and/or committees and give us something to work on.
Don't forget to let us have the scripts as soon as possible, the Adjudicator has got to read the lot before the Festival.
We have sent out 31 entry kits now.

Probably a stupid question
Probably a stupid question
Not a stupid question at all.
You DO really neeed to be in WA, although there is certainly no hard and fast rule!
DramaFest is an initative of the Independent Theatre Assocaiation of WA and is a'competative' Festival of one-act plays. It is held annually on the long weekend at the end of September (WA's Queen's Birthday weekend). All member clubs are asked to enter and we send out an Entry Kit to those who respond. Plays must have a minimum of 2 in the cast and be from 20 mins to 45 mins in length. Any one act play or a stand-alone extract from a full length play is acceptable.
For the past few years we have asked various of the local theatres to host it and they have responded with enthusiasm. This year Garrick Theatre in Guildford are celebrating thier 75th birthday and are hosting it as part of the year long celebrations.
We encourage local talent and this year there will be a new award for local writers , sponsored by Robert Whyte, a long time member of local theatre and the ITA, in honour of Beryl Silvester a well known director and mentor to several generations of local talent while running YALDA (Young Australia League Drama Academy), now sadly no longer in existance.
The Festival is adjudicated by a theatrical professional, this year Bill McCluskey and awards are given for Acting, Directing, content, Local writing, etc etc.
Anyone may enter but the entry fee is double that charged to ITA members.Currently the entry fee is $75 for member clubs/individuals and $150 for non-members.
Hope this helps Sean B.
Yeah thanks heaps, thanks
Hi Sean, Just because you
An update to an update!
DRAMAFEST 2007 THIRD UPDATE- AS ON TUESDAY
Well we now have a total of 20 entries with a few more, possibly 5 to arrive. Local writing this year is VERY well featured, so far there are 11 entries by local , that is WA writers. for anyone reading this who has not yet submitted their entries - get a move on please!!! FINAL and COMPLETE closing date end of this week!
We have been informed that we will be unable to schedule the Thursday evening this year as the Adjudicator will be unavailable, so we are going to have a VERY full weekend.
Several clubs have entered three plays and it may not be possible to allow all of them. we do our best to accomodate all entries but simple logistics may just preclude this.
YouthFest is on Saturday September 15th at Roleystone, we have eight entries,
Keep watching for further updates.
