DREAMSCAPE Productions and the City of Fremantle are calling on all performers, artists, filmmakers, musicians, writers, dancers, photographers and more to be part of Weave during the 2007 Fremantle Festival. Described as a vibrant melting pot of hybrid performance, circus, theatre dance, art, live music, film and fashion, Weave binds together the best of Fremantle’s performing arts community in Kings Square and Fremantle Town Hall. Under Dreamscape’s artistic direction, Weave will bring together independent projects and workshops from a wide cross-section of emerging and established artists for three events – the Town Hall program, Weave 2007 and oUtside the sQuare. “During the festival’s run from November 16 to 25, the Fremantle Town Hall will transform into a place where the community can showcase their work under one eclectic roof,” City of Fremantle Cultural Development Coordinator Lou Westbury said. “It will become a central performance and exhibition venue, ensuring a community festival gathering that highlights a diverse range of art, performances, culture and more. “As part of this, Weave 2007 is three fantastic nights of variety and entertainment with a grand finale showcasing highlights from the Fremantle Festival. “On top of that, oUtside the sQuare will bring both Kings Square and the Town Hall alive with free innovative workshops for everyone from toddlers right through to seniors. “The Weave concept aims to make the Fremantle Festival more accessible to the community and to really engage and foster pride for the wealth of wonders that abound through our arts and cultural diversity.” Weave artistic director Sarah Nelson, responsible for Weave – The Festival Club in the 2006 Fremantle Festival, currently works with community organisations such as DADAA (Disabled in the Arts Disadvantaged in the Arts) and the Armadale Nyoongar Circus. When assessing applications for Weave, the City of Fremantle and Dreamscape productions will take into consideration: • Quality of ideas and how they reflect community interests. • Evidence of capacity to make it happen. • Opportunity for direct engagement with the Fremantle community. • Opportunities for artistic development. Application forms are due by July 16 and can be obtained from www.fremantlefestivals.com or by calling 9432 9728. • For more information contact Artistic Director Sarah Nelson on 0417 902 559 or e-mail dream.scape@optusnet.com.au.
