NSW Equity Mentor Program 2007 Opens For Applications

So you are finally part of the industry that you have worked so hard to get into, but you are finding it bigger, broader and sometimes more daunting and confusing than you expected. Do you sometimes wish you had someone who understood what starting out as a performer is like and could give you some advice? The Equity Mentorship program is an initiative that performers created for performers and it is being steered by experienced Equity member Roy Billing. It was developed in recognition that most performers would welcome a helping hand at the start of their career.
The Equity Mentorship programme plans to match new performers with experienced performers. We aim to match you with an experienced performer who shares common interests and goals for the mentorship relationship and who believes that sharing their experiences will be of benefit to you.
You and your mentor will decide how your relationship will work. Experience has shown that most of the time the mentor and mentoree meet once a month for coffee and supplement this with a phone call. However it is up to the individual pairs to define what works for them.
Please Note:
- That the mentors are not and should not be regarded as counsellors or life coaches.
- Nor is there an expectation that the mentor will be expected to find work or source agents for the mentoree.
- Each party is free to decide that they do not want to continue the program and can contact Alexandra Jones at the Equity Foundation who will advise the other party.
- The formal mentorship program extends for approximately six months, after which the pairing can continue if both parties wish it to continue.
- This initiative is only offered to financial members of Equity.
Please know that every effort will be made to match every mentoree applicant with a mentor. However, please know that the number of mentors are limited so not all mentorees will find a match first time around.
For those who have previously applied to the program and have been unsuccessful, every effort will be made to successfully match you in this round.
Applications for this round of the Mentor Program will close on Wednesday 11 July 2007.
Additional - While there does not appear to be a restriction on which state you are from, I am making further enquiries to find out details. When I get anything, I shall post further addendums here.
To complete the form, go online to the MEAA Registration form and don't forget to have you most recent Perfromance Resume ready also.
I have had a reply from the MEAA

Dear Jeffrey
Thanks so much for the email…At this stage the mentor programme that has been advertised is for NSW Members only. However we do look forward to working on a WA Mentor programme. As you can understand we need to match NSW mentors with NSW mentorees as so many of the issues that are discussed and dealt with are local industry issues.
So – look out for future programmes.
So the program is currently NSW Based Only. However, they are looking into developing similar projects around the country. For the NSW Members, this could be a great opportunity.
