Hey there, I may be making the big move from East Coast to West Coast within the next few months, and i know the theatre scene over there is fairly big. I would be living in or around Perth, and would be looking to find a theatre company to get involved with. I am heavily involved here in my home town of Newcastle in both directing and performing so would like some advice from the people who live over there as to where i would head for this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Cal

disappointed.

hey there, i recently wrote the above message hoping to get some feedback from the good people from the west, unfortunately i have had no response to the message about good theatre companies in and around the perth area. i am very keen to know where and who would be the best companies to be involved with we will be moving around the middle of July, so could someone please give me some advice. thanks carolyn

Perhaps you should specify

Perhaps you should specify the area you will be moving too - that will have an impact on any recommendations. No point recommending Mandurah Little Theatre if you're going to be living in Joondalup.

If you're close to the

If you're close to the city, then Old Mill Theatre and Playlovers and the Irish Theatre Players are perhaps the closest? But in Perth, just about anywhere is only a 30-minute drive away... meaning you could go to Garrick Theatre in Guildford, KADS Theatre in the Hills, Harbour Theatre in Fremantle, Melville Theatre, Stirling Theatre, etc....

Perhaps proving some

Perhaps proving some contact details in the first instance would have been prudent?

Simply put

The is a real rich selection of Theatres around the place. Being able to pin anythings specific without knowing a bit more detail is somewhat difficult. In all truth, many of them are good, depending on what you are looking for. There are very few (if any) that are not good if you catch my meaning.

Look through the site

Your question is too broad. If you want every theatre/film group in WA, go to the "companies" on this site at the top of the page, open the "View Companies" and then click "WA". If you cant find what you want...well...Im sure you will find what you want. Its more about putting the effort into finding it. Keep Smiling :) David Green DRAGON FILMS www.davidgreenenterprises.com

thanks.

sorry i wasn't very specific, i guess coming from Newcastle where we have over 10 theatre companies within 15 mins from each other i forgot that moving to a bigger city would warrant more information. and the reason i haven't specified where i would be living is because we don't actually know yet, my husband is in perth at the moment trying to find something/somewhere for us to move to. and we have to be there in 6 weeks. OMG. so i do apologise. at this point we are looking in the northern suburbs of perth to reside in, but that is now, who knows what is gonna happen really, but i don't mind driving for rehearsal etc. once again i apologise for not supplying you with the info you needed to give me the info i requested. and i have put my email address here as well cazandjake@hotmail.com so thank you in advance. i am interested in musical theatre mainly so if that helps....

Northern suburbs - let's

Northern suburbs - let's see, Limelight, Stirling & Playlovers do musical theatre. Can anyone think of any others? And presumably you're talking about community theatre, not professional theatre?

Northern Lights

Established Theatres would include - Garrick (Guildford), Marloo (Greenmount), Stirling Players (Innaloo), Limelight (Wanneroo), Playlovers (Floreat), Grads (UWA, Nedlands), Barking Gecko (Subiaco)

There are a number of other smaller groups such as Endeavour Theatre opperating out of the Apex Hall, North Beach. I am sure that others can fill in some of the blanks in this list.

Overwhelmed

Hi Carolyn, When you get to Perth, contact the ITA and we will send you a list of the local community theatres for you to make a choice! Their phone number is 9420.7242, the office is only attended part time so you will probably have to leave a message Otherwise contact me at davisrn@cygnus.uwa.edu.au and I'll email you a list.

Hobson's Choice

Norma wrote: 'When you get to Perth, contact the ITA and we will send you a list of the local community theatres for you to make a choice!' Why make a choice? Surely the whole point of theatre is to do the most challenging play irrespective of the theatre venue. You don't want to do one great play and then half dozen rubbish at the same theatre.
