As usual when confronted with questions like that out of the blue I could not think who he could contact! Please if anyone can help or knows who he can contact, please give him a call his name is Paul Johnson, phone:0415.112.194 The date is May 12th. Thanks in advance!

Hopefully he's prepared to

Hopefully he's prepared to pay the actors?

Not likely

And why should he? I have done this in the past a few times. It's great fun.

Heck I do theatre and don't get paid for it. It's for the love of it. If you're only in it for the pay, then why don't you get a "real" job. It pays better.

Yes, let's all keep

Yes, let's all keep underselling ourselves, that'll really encourage people to pay actors what they're worth

Or perhaps someone can

Or perhaps someone can recommend a group in Perth who actually offers Murder Mystery parties - a group of actors who do get paid, and are trained at offering such parties. I know there are several companies in the Eastern states who do it. Then maybe this thread will offer some help to the person who posted, instead of bickering over the pay. What we have here

Is the eternal clash between amateur and pro. We had a similar discussion a while ago when someone wanted an actor to deliver a proposal. If you want and expect to make a living out of the industry then don't go any further, if the guy wanted pro's he presumably would have approached an agent. If you are an amateur who does it for the fun of it then contact him. Why bitch about it here. This is not going to have any major effect on employment prospects for professionals it's a one off fun gig. And frankly if you consider you are a pro but need jobs like this to make a living then really you ought to reconsider your career path. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

can't agree

with the above- If he wants an actor to do his party, he should bloody well pay them. Would he get a lawyer to offer him some advice for free? a doctor give him a free once-over and diagnosis? A builder put in a wall for free? His plumber fix a couple of leaks for free? -just because they might actually enjoy their job (and as bizarre as it sounds, some people actually do enjoy their 'real' jobs too) but for some reason we think an actor is worth less? Shame on all of you. I am stunned that these comments have actually come from you guys. If he doesn't want to pay anyone to do his murder party, he can do what I do and get a few of his mates together to do it. If he wants actors to do their 'job' he can pay them. If he doesn't, then the next person won't, and then the next person, and then the next. This DOES have a major effect on employment prospects... The only reason you pay what you do to your lawyer, doctor, plumber, builder is because they don't faff around saying "Well it's fun anyway" or "well it's only a once-off" As an industry they stand up and say- this is what is acceptable, and the public generally respect this, even if they don't like it. Actors are only treated like s''t because we say it's OK. and I know of a fair few actors who started out in this very caper, who are having very successful careers now- where do you think aspiring/beginning actors will make their money- doing Cats at the Regal?! I can tell you that despite my Bachelors Degree, being a full time WA Opera chorus member, ex- principal Australian youth orchestra percussionist and current casual WASO member, and ten years of similar experience; you know what makes a LOT of my money? Playing a 4-minute piece on rubbish bins for corporate clients. Yes- I need jobs like this to make a living- but I don't like to think that my fellow musicians would consider me less for doing it. *Grumpy face*... To answer the original post- you should check out Andrew Horabin's web site- google him. I think he used to run a company that does this, and his site might point you in the right direction. OK

I've reread the original post and my response and your post Neville. I may have been a little off track. I'm a bit grumpy at the moment because of a project I'm trying to get up and the FIRST question I keep getting asked often before the person has even read the script is "how much will I get paid". I know it's an important point but the first question? If the guy is looking for some gifted performers to create the entire situation then sure he should pay. If he's just looking for a few people to have a bit of fun and take some pressure of him then maybe ... I don't know, my head hurts. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

All I can do is give you a smily face :-) I too am grumpy, fluey, tired, and feeling a little like going home... bummer, I am home- that's right I work here too! Hope your project gets up and running soon enough. Stay on target Nev It's the simple things stupid...
