Fortunately I was privy to be at the launch of "Star Power" this evening at His Majesty's Theatre... I urge all those performers who are fortunate enough to be within this age bracket to enter - make sure you check out the website - www.starpowerwa.com.au and myspace site - http://www.myspace.com/starpowerwa

Star Power is a fantastic new Drama & Musical Theatre competition for anyone aged between 16-25 years of age in Western Australia.

Visit our web site at www.starpowerwa.com.au ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF STAR POWER?? DO YOU WANT TO PERFORM ON A WORLD CLASS STAGE?? DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A TOP PERFORMER?? DO YOU WANT TO BE SEEN BY THE BIGGEST CASTING NAMES IN FILM, STAGE & TELEVISION IN THE COUNTRY?? YOU COULD WIN A PRIVATE AUDITION FOR TWO OF THE COUNTRY'S HIGHEST RATING SHOWS "HOME AND AWAY" & "ALL SAINTS"

Entries close June 12 2007.
To enter go to www.starpowerwa.com.au

Performers will be entered into a local audition heat and perform before our judges. Auditions will be held in local community theatres wherever possible.

The top 100 contestants will be invited to Perth to be involved in a weekend of workshops, classes and theatre sessions. At the end of that process the top 12 contestants will be chosen (6 drama and 6 musical theatre).

Our finalists will then work for four weekends with our Artistic Director and Musical Director who will provide scenes from plays and musicals. They will direct the finalists in these scenes.

On November 13th at His Majesty’s Theatre, the twelve grand finalists will take to the stage. They will perform in scenes, perform their monologues, sing their songs and shine! Our judges - Paul Barron, Bevan Lee and Ann Fay will choose two of the finalists to fly to Sydney for private auditions for “Home and Away” and “All Saints”.

Local casting agents will be inviting some of our finalists to join their books in WA.

Each finalist will receive an exclusive screen testing workshop with Bevan Lee, Channel Seven Script Executive and creator of “Home and Away”.

WHY IS STAR POWER UNIQUE?

Each of the top 100 performers will have a chance to work with professional mentors. No other theatre competition offers this opportunity for learning and development. This is much more than a teenage talent quest, it's a chance to identify the professionals of the future. Each finalist will benefit through participation in the competition - a screen testing workshop and photo package is just the beginning.

Speaking as the Artistic Director of Starpower, I can only say that Logos' cynical disbelief at what we are offering is in fact a huge compliment....it shows just how extraordinary what have to offer actually IS. I have seen a number of dedicated and talented people giving their time for free so that we can offer young people an affordable and worthwhile shot at showing their potential. Basically if we can organise enough people in any region, we will come to you. I am personally committed to attending each and every audition, from Karratha to Albany if necessary. I am also setting aside six weeks for workshops and one to one work with the lucky Grand Finalists....still just part of the original $25. Let's be frank and open: we are going to sell tickets to the Final (as anyone paying to hire a theatre has to), and competitors will need to be able to sort out time and means to stay in Perth for workshops etc But there are no "extra" hidden charges or ways for us to make a profit. Our only aim is to offer young performers a chance to show just what they are capable of. A time for dancing indeed!
