WANT to be a part of this year’s Fremantle Festival from November 16 to 25? The City of Fremantle is seeking applications from arts organisations, performers, community groups and others who want to be involved in the annual 10-day festival, now in its 102nd year. Cultural Development Coordinator Lou Westbury said it was entirely up to artists and performers as to how they became involved in the Fremantle Festival because the City aimed to make the event as wide-ranging as possible. “The Fremantle Festival is about the community and the arts and we strive to reflect this each year in our program of events,” she said. “We need to achieve a balanced program overall with broad community appeal so we’ll be considering how the events submitted fit together with other program initiatives. “This way we can create an exciting festival and provide a cavalcade of activities to fully engage the vast array of interests across the community, helping us to develop a broad arts and culture showcase. “The festival program embraces all sorts of art forms, including dance, music, film, theatre, visual arts and literature – but people making submissions don’t have to be restricted by this list, as long as they highlight how their project can fit into the program.” Applications should include relevant information such as estimated budgets, resumes and photos and address the following points: * Quality of ideas and how they reflect community interests. * Evidence of your ability to make the event happen. * Opportunities for direct engagement with the Fremantle community. * Opportunity for artistic development. * How the event takes places within the City of Fremantle overall. Application forms should be received by August 27 but people are encouraged to submit them as early as possible, even if some details are still to be confirmed. “This will provide an overview of how the program is developing and enable us to support the community to develop a broad arts and culture program,” Ms Westbury said. “Details must then be confirmed by the deadline.” Forms are available from Fremantle Festival Operations Coordinator Doreen Johnson on 9432 9728 or e-mail doreen@fremantle.wa.gov.au or download from www.fremantlefestivals.com. * For more information, contact Cultural Development Coordinator Lou Westbury on 9432 9716 or e-mail LouW@fremantle.wa.gov.au
