Just wondering what people's experiences are as members of Arts Hub Australia (www.artshub.com.au). I'm considering joining up for one year as I am on the look out for marketing jobs in the arts (Western Australia). Interested to know if it's worthwhile. Any comments appreciated.

Arts Hub Membership

I have been a member for a couple of years. It seems to have very wide access. You certainly get inundated with interesting information. As for success in finding work - I have only applied a couple of times and had absolutely no response - but that is not the fault of Arts Hub. I had a lot better results when I advertised myself as a consultant, although it seems lots of people in the arts expect you to work for free (as probably do they most of the time). Good luck. I'm somewhat biased

I'm somewhat biased (longtime member, but also a previous employee). Arts Hub is very good for finding jobs, though for theatre work there is mainly fringe/co-op positions advertised. There are always more tech/admin jobs advertised than auditions (for auditions, I would sign up with QuietonSet), and every single big arts organisation will post their jobs at Arts Hub rather than anywhere else. For news, they are good, but if you don't like getting a lot of news bulletins (three times per week for their news, plus you have the option of a daily bulletin), then it's a little much. It's definitely worthwhile. I've researched a lot of arts/theatre publications, and Arts Hub would be one of the top three publications I'd recommend. (I had this opinion before I started working for them by the way. If you'd like some proof, search this site. I'm sure I've recommended them before). I should point out that there's little point putting your CV/profile online. I doubt anyone uses the search function often; but the jobs advertised are often exclusively given to Arts Hub to advertise. looking for work in WA or anywhere in Australia?

Hi I am the site administrator of Dare2Audition an Acting & Audition Club, we have lots of industry related work posted in our forum, there is no charge to register as a user and access basic services, all "Industry related work" is posted in the forum, whereby auditions are posted in 2 calendars, one for registered users (free membership) and another for private subscribers (paid membership). Our private subscribers pay a small fee for us to act like a claytons manager/agent, sending their resumes/showreels to private auditions that come in (if suitable) and also private subscribers have access to free theatre tickets, acting books that we receive from companies supporting Dare2Audition. Upload your cv and headshot for directors to access regarding work, we have 2 new casting agencies using the site from January (private subscribers only)

We also negotiate discounts at theatres, acting schools, photographers, makeup schools, for showreels etc. for our private subscribers and sms notification when new work comes in. No agent fees charged for work accessed via dare2audition for any members, we are not an agent we are a club.

We have a live chat segment commencing in January 2007, speak to directors, casting agents, photographers, other working actors etc. Get together and collaberate on a production.  If the industry is slow create your own work...put your heads together and join your resources...make your own work.

But if your happy to totally freelance and don't need as much assistance the services are free, we have new work posted daily and lots of fun competitions - we love giving away gifts to our members, acting books, theatre tickets, acting classes, this month we have had a creative writing competition 500 words or less any topic, win a new apple ipod with itunes card, 2nd prize win a nokia mobile phone with $50 recharge card.

Receive membership upgrade by just using the site, check the points system, this shows how you can receive free private subscription, so you can access all the premium services for free. (moderated so please don't abuse this system) We offer this for artists that want to get involved but can't afford private membership ($1.82 per week) The private membership is about commitment not money, thats why we offer a system that if you use it, its free.

audition sites

Dare2Audition has lots of auditions and industry related work.

I am also slightly biased, but I can only go on what our members tell us, but we are told we have more auditions than any other site online, we don't rely on whats circulating, directors contact us personally and request, we post their work requirements.  I can hardly keep up with all the work coming in, its a 7 day a week job posting all the auditions and industry related work. There was 68 auditions on 1 calendar and 85 on our premium calendar for December, of course not all paid work but a good percentage is. The premium calendar is for paid work only.

Hi Sarah,I think I am safe

Hi Sarah, I think I am safe in saying that Arts Hub is the industry standard for arts jobs and news in Australia - I would definately recommend joining! I am a long-term member and currently work in an Arts Marketing position. I found my job through Arts Hub - as have most of my colleagues. They list jobs from many areas of the arts, from administration to artist director or performers. Admittedly, there are a lot of other sites out there that cover specific areas of the arts, but none will give you the scope or substance that Arts Hub does. Most of the big arts organisations are members and will advertise their jobs directly with them so its probably the best place to start looking. Hope this helps :)
