Alliance (MEAA) E-Mag - 29 Nov 2006 - A little late...
Wed, 13 Dec 2006, 08:47 amWelcome to your weekly e-bulletin from the Alliance. This week:
-Theatre AWA -National Performers Committee -Docudrama Auditions
-National Community Day Of Action -Walking With Dinosaurs -JUST Workshops
Theatre AWA presented-In a worrying first, the Theatre Producers Association has presented Equity with a draft AWA (one of the Howard Government's individual work contracts) which it says one of its producers is proposing to use. The proposed contract removes Sunday and public holiday penalty rates and understudy loadings. The contract removes travel allowances entirely for contracts in excess of 26 weeks, the contracts provide much greater flexibility to record and exploit the performer's performance without the performer's consent and without additional payment, removes payment for lay off, removes the 11-hour turnaround provision entirely, removes some of the minimum break provisions, provides for a 10-hour day and an averaged 38-hour week over 12 months. Many other protections are reduced or removed. Performers are reminded that the only thing now standing between themselves and these conditions is a determined stance to work together through Equity to refuse such conditions of engagement on all productions and only work on the collective agreement negotiated by Equity. If you are approached to sign one of these contracts please contact the Equity office in your state.
NPC Meets in Melbourne-National Performers Committee to meet this week and consider issues as diverse as the Federal Government's response to the review of film funding, Theatre negotiations, proposed use of imported artists in the Phil Noyce feature Dirt Music, program for the Equity Foundation for 2007, progress of negotiations for new television agreements with ABC, 7 Network and Screen Producers Association of Australia and the no budget film policy.
Docudrama Auditions-Are you auditioning for or working on a docudrama or documentary? Equity is currently involved in a dispute with the SPAA over the proper engagement of performers on these types of productions. Equity's position is that performers have always been and should always be engaged on the ATRRA contract for docudramas and documentaries. If you are considering working on either type of production please get in touch with Dana Michels at 9333 0999 or dana.michels@alliance.org.au
