Welcome to your weekly e-bulletin from the Alliance. This week:

- Warner Bros Negotiations - ABC talks - SBS Productions - Lobby NSW Government
- New Releases - NZ Performers Committee - AFRTS agreement - Kosky Masterclass
- Jeannette Nelson encore Masterclass - Equity Graduate Days - Ticket offer
- Equity Mentorship Programs - U-Carmen

Warner Bros Offshore Feature Negotiations - The Alliance has begun negotiations with US studio Warner Bros for a long term Offshore Feature Film Agreement to cover all film productions brought to Australia by the studio. Warner (whose productions in Australia include the Matrix trilogy and Superman) previously contracted each production on a stand-alone agreement. The basis of a new agreement, as with all offshore features, will be SAG equivalent pay and residuals. Currently Warner has Where the Wild Things Are and Fools Gold in Australia.

ABC talks - The Alliance is negotiating with the ABC for an agreement to cover actors. A meeting in the week beginning 25 September will address the so-called 'work in one production rule', new media, rates of pay and superannuation.

SBS comes to the table - With new productions including Marx and Venus and The First Australians underway, SBS has agreed to negotiate a standard agreement for producers, rather than on a production-by-production basis. Discussions begin next week.

Lobby NSW Government - The Iemma government has released a draft 10-year plan (www.nsw.gov.au/stateplan) to set directions for funding and budget allocations. The arts community must lobby to ensure it includes film and television program production in NSW. Visit the site and comment or write to your local MP and demand support for the NSW Film and Television Office, development of NSW writers and directors, employment of crew and actors and the continued growth and vibrancy of the post production sector.

New Australian film releases - Gillian Armstrong's documentary of murdered designer Florence Broadhurst Unfolding Florence starring Felicity Price recently premiered at the 2006 Melbourne International Film Festival. Ana Kokkinos's mystery The Book of Revelation starring Tom Long, Greta Scacchi and Colin Friels was invited to show at the Sundance Film Festival 2006. Support Australian film by boosting both films' box-office takings in their opening weeks.

NZ Performers Committee - Following a positive meeting in Wellington, the Wellington Performers Committee has begun to organise ways to reach out to performers to join and become active in Equity. A similar meeting of the Auckland Performers Committee will be held soon. Want to get involved? Contact Teresa: teresa.brown@alliance.net.nz or Kate: kate.brady@alliance.org.au.

AFTRS - Negotiations have begun for a new agreement covering performers who work on student films at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.

He will provide a Masterclass for 25 Equity members on "Music and the Actor" for the Equity Professional Program on 25 September, 1-4pm at STC's Wharf 2 Theatre. Financial members apply by e-mail: suzanne.culph@alliance.org.au by 11 September.

Held at the STC on Friday 22 September from 10am for three hours. Financial members e-mail alison.aprhys@alliance.org.au. To learn more about Jeanette's background, go to www.alliance.org.au
