Workers Walk Against Workplace Changes - Thousands of workers showed their discontent with changes to workplace laws on Wednesday 28 June with large-scale protest rallies across Australia. The rallies demonstrated the growing discontent to the changes, proving many workers will not relinquish control over employment conditions without a fight. Alliance members were out in force. 50 Years Of Opera Australia - Celebrating half a century of fine work from cast, creatives and crew, is definitely worth celebrating. Equity is looking for ideas and feedback on an Opera Australia review that will be funny, inspiring, celebratory - and just for Opera Australia. There's A Bear In There - Equity is gearing up to celebrate the fantastic work of performers and crew on 40 years of Play School on Monday 16 October at the Museum of Sydney. Equity Opens Across The Tasman - New Zealand performers will have a stronger voice and greater opportunities to determine and achieve their professional priorities when the NZ branch of the Alliance and the Actors' Benevolent Fund officially launches next week. More than 200 actors, comedians, voice artists, thespians, presenters, producers, directors and other luminaries of New Zealand's entertainment industry are expected to gather at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki on Monday July 3 to raise a glass to the future of the union. Michele A'Court will MC the evening and will be joined by distinguished performers Elizabeth McRae, Jay Laga'Aia and Rachel House to pay tribute to a great industry and a bright future.

NZ Branch Welcomed - The establishment of the NZ branch of the Alliance was welcomed by a meeting of English speaking union members of the International Federation of Actors (FIA) and North-American union members of FIA in New York this week.  The meeting sent a message that welcomed the decision by New Zealand performers and the Alliance (the Alliance to open an office and organise performers in New Zealand. It also acknowledged the work of NZ Equity through the National Distribution Union (NDU) to date and its cooperation in bringing the initiative to fruition and wished the branch all the best in solidarity for the future of the union.

Working On New Media Productions - One of the fastest growing areas in entertainment is new media productions, including mobisodes, internet series and podcasts. The Alliance has a standard contract for new media productions.  If you are considering working on a new media production please call the Alliance office if you require further information on 1300 656512.  

Helpmann Nominees Announced - Nominees for this year's Helpmann Awards were announced on 26 June. The Helpmanns annually recognises distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia's live performance sectors, including musical theatre, comedy and physical theatre. Voting opens on Friday 8 July and closes Friday 21 July. The 2006 Helpmann Awards will be presented on 31 July at the Lyric Theatre Star City, Sydney. Making Sense Of Money - Equity's Dollars & Sense seminars are aimed to help performers save more and better manage their income. Monday 3 July, 6.30pm Melbourne Alliance office; Tuesday 4 July 6.30pm at the Blue Room Theatre, Perth; and Monday 17 July 6.30pm at the Holden St Theatre, Adelaide. Free for financial members. Email kate.brady@alliance.org.au
