Hi I recently went to Adelaide and did a course there and now have come home to re assess my goals and get some direction I guess.. The teacher said that if Acting is something you are wanting to then it should be your main priority... so for all the actors out there does that mean get a job that is at night so I am available during the day ??? I have done some study at KAFF when it was around and I do do some study here and there.... should I try to get into something more indepth(ie full time study). should I stay here or go east or overseas.... I guess I am just puting it out there that I do want to give it a good go in this industry and if anyone can give me some pointers as to were to really start that would be a great help. Thanks for your time :)

Nighttimes..

So if you got a job at night, how would you perform in shows? Most theatre performances are done at night and the weekend, not during the day. Unless of course you're doing a children's/schools touring show. The Prompt Copy Networking emerging theatre professionals www.thepromptcopy.com Sticky Apple Legs http://stickyapplelegs.artsblogs.com

Where to from here...

People work becasue they need money to survive. Same deal with actors. Every actor would love to survive off their acting but most wont be able and while were all waiting for our break we have to work odd jobs that allow the flexibility required. Tere were a number of times with one job i had where i called up the day before the shift to cancel it because i got a casting that conflicted with it. Thats just how it is. So work wherever doing whatever that means you can do as much acting as you want. It all comes down to what you want in life. If acting is your passion THEN GO OUT AND CHASE IT!!! one thing that im having trouble realising myself but which im accepting more nowadays is that it takes time. You dont just walk into your first feature / TV show / TVC / Play etc... It takes time. You need to train. Its also important to realise that you never stop training. Let me ask you a few questions. Can you sing? Can you dance? How many hours a day of voice work do you do? How much movement work are you doing? How much theatre do you watch? How reliant are you on your agent? How is the marketing of YOU going? You will survive much better and will be less reliant on these dodgy odd jobs if your a triple threat (singer dance actor) and if you are actively working on your instrument (your body and voice). It takes time and effort, but if its what you want then that doesnt really matter because its all worth it. Apart from that you need to market yourself. SO get your headshots, showreels, website , business cards, organised and start letting people know that you exist. Paul M.
