Buskers

I am curious. What do people think of buskers?
My friend and I busk once a week in town - Sunday - for a few hours and make about $40 a week between us. We play music and do short skits and monologues - depending, of course, on who is there. But some people really do turn their noses up as if we smell really bad and haven't noticed it.
For example yesterday we decided to move from Busking in Fremantle to busking in Perth. Now Freo is alot mroe cultural - well I think so - and busking is quite popular there but Perth! My god! I've never felt like such a piece of dirt my entire life! The looks and the comments, people yelling insults. Cutting a long story short we left Perth after 2hrs of busking and went back to Freo for 4 more hours where we earnt ALOT more then our pitiful $5 that was given to us in Perth.
So why do people react so negatively towards buskers? We, personally, do it for fun and to give us practice in front of people we do not know - especially with the musical side. Some buskers make it a living - hoping one day to be discovered and become the next Rod Stewart. So why is attempting to make a living using a talent you possess so bad in the eyes of so many? Its the same as people striving through the theatre and music industries.
It just really got to me yesterday. We've dealt with people being rude before but that was just horrible. Fortunately the rudeness we faced in Perth was made up for by the children and elderly of Fremantle. We even had one elderly couple dancing together to some of our jazz pieces and kids dancing to Disney music.
Until then I never realised how lacking Perth was with street culture. And it is a sad thought.
