Uni Girl - Masks!

Kirilee

Sunday 12 November 2006

I would like to dedicate this post to the talented Na, as I would like to show off the two masks I made for the Northbridge festival that I promised I would in one of her posts about puppetry. I, as well as 17 others in my year at Uni, made two masks and did an intensive workshop period over 5 weeks with the very talented Deborah Hunt, mask performer specialist, from Porta Rica. At the end of the 5 weeks, we performed for half an hour in the Northbridge festival on two semi-trailers, then walked down the streets from the corner of Lake and James streets to the Rechibites (sp?) Hall, in our big masks. A very awesome sight I was told. The two masks made was a "humaniod" small mask and a "strange council" large mask. Here are my two: Small mask - Chadweena, The Queen

Big Mask - Dragal, The Alien (Friendly or evil?)

Hope you like them, looking forward to some feedback. It was my first time ever paper macheing and painting. No kidding. (Well, I did painting until year four, but that's it). ~ Kirilee
