Catherine at Avignon - Wanted Volunteer Stage Manager
Thursday 16 April 2009
We are currently calling for a volunteer Stage Manager for Catherine at Avignon at the
TAP Gallery June 2 to June 21 with rehearsals for the production in May.
Set in the papal court of Avignon in 1376, the play presents a world of
decadence, corruption and intrigue. It tells the story of Catherine,
the uneducated daughter of a Sienese wool dyer, who travels to Avignon
to convince the most powerful man in Europe that he should ignore all other
advice and return the papacy to Rome. It is based on a true story.
Despite its setting, it is not a religious play. It is an exploration of
authority. It could be described as The Crucible meets St Joan meets
The Herbal Bed.
It is also rather funny!
