Gratitude - and a welcome stranger
Saturday 7 March 2009
During my attendance of the opening night of "Assassins" at Roleystone last night, and spending an enjoyable, much needed, evening out in great company (more about the show later) an interesting thing happened on the way into the theatre.
A woman approached me as though she knew me and thanked me for my lighthearted speech and humorous approach to my part of the presentation awards ceremony at the Finley's.
This "random back-patting" is not an unfamiliar occurrence, as a two or three time actor I have previously had well meaning members of the "blue rinse sect" do much the same thing. Usually immediately after the show or perhaps at the same venue during the next season while doing the obligatory FOH duty.
For some reason though, this particular woman caught me completely off guard. She was by no means a participant in the hair dye and lavender scent group, quite the contrary in fact. If anything, it would be me that was the older of the two (and that by quite a few years.)
Her face was familiar to me but I could not place her, and yet I felt I should be able to call her by name. I thought that perhaps I had seen a profile picture on here and that was why she seemed familiar, but so far I haven't found it if it is here.
I have since been scouring the profiles of this site in the hopes of being able to put a name to the face of last night.
After having absolutely no success I am left with but one alternative.
Public acknowledgment of my ignorance.
If you happen to be reading this, I wish to do two things.
1) Thank you again for your kind words, but add this disclaimer: "I was not alone. Having Ken Harris up there with me helped - A LOT!"
2) Apologise profusely for not being able to recognise you, but if we should happen to bump into each other again - Your first after show drink is on me!
OK... having gotten that off my chest, on with writing the review of the show......
Stay tuned, it will appear later today on the appropriate page.
