(We really need a dancing emoticon) We couldn't believe it word had flown around the school like a wild fire after Thursday nights show. They turned so many people away at the door last night that we would have been able to fill the theatre one and half times over. That's a first for our school. And also prooved our point that Thursday and Friday night shows sell better then Friday and Saturday night shows because word can travel easier. Anyway we were lucky they were not using the Lecture theatre next door last night else we would have had the majority of the cast in the carpark behind the theatre. We would have no where to put them! Now I'm over the shock of that. Last nights show in general ran alot mroe smoothly then Thursday nights and people were getting over nerves alot easier. The yr12's were running the show again. We worked alot easier now that the younger memebers of the cast were able to control themselves a little better. It's hard to deal with a bunch of yr9's and 10's - most of whom have never performed on a stage before to an audience - but we handled it well. They finally understood what could be heard from the auditorium from backstage. I give them credit they did handle it well. The audience - although being alot larger in scale then opening night - were alot more responsive to peoples performances. They laughed alot easier, clapped more politely etc. Most of these people have never stepped foot in a theatre before but only a few audience misadventures last night. Example: A phone rang for over a minute worth of my friends performance and the poor girl had to keep going. Although I credit the person who's phone went off apologised out loud after her performance when the MC's told them to turn their phones off. And he found her after the show to apologise. That is probably the worst of last night. But overall the audience responded more and more fun to perform for - in my opinion anyway. The lower school classes did some funny pieces. The yr9's performed exceprts from "Hating Alison Ashley" which was good for that level of training. The yr10's were perhaps the favourite of the audience because they used teachers - to their shock - and did a work similar to that of the show "Thank God You're Here" - using teachers as their guests. They are guests at Madame Bousiers birthday party and some quirky characters are there to guide them through the evening. Teachers dancing in flared sparkling pants and top hats, with pink hair and gossiping ladies and the waitresses and their "guest" in his 1920's gangster hat aren't all they seem. The dance girls improved immensly in 12months producing a piece to "SOS" by Rhianna. The choir and music was incorporated this year and recieved brilliant applause. The yr12 students have performed both Solo Productions and Monologues ranging from Shakespeare and the Absurd to contemporary styles and slightly sane characters. "Luck of the Irish" - A solo about a leprechaun who is cursed with bad luck because he moved to England the day they handed out the "luck of the irish" decidees to pay a visit to the Emerald Isle to get some "luck" himself. "Choices" - A solo about the choices people make and how they can effect yourself and the world around you. Done as an Epic piece. "Obligations" - A solo about a yr12 student who reflects on the things she has had to do in her past and present when all she wanted to do was have fun! "Reality check" - A solo about reality TV and reality. They really are worlds apart. "Jacques" from Shakespeares "As You Like It" - Jacques explains how the seven stages of life are similar to the characters one acts onstage. The famous saying "All the worlds a stage" was coined by this piece. "The Lesson" - A monologue of absurdist style about a professor who kills his students through the use of words and nonsense knowledge. "Business is Business" - A solo about a girl named Trixie set in 1920's chicago. This girl will do anything to have her name in lights including working for notorious gangster Jonnie Ragone. And finally my piece!! "The Story Keeper" - A solo about the story keeper - Tarsha - muse to asporiting writer Jennifer Watkins. Jennifer in an attempt to free herself from Tarsha breaks the one rule but regrets it after finding out what happens when you betray the Story Keeper. My personal performance went alot more smoothly then wednesday's rehearsal and thursday nights show. Although I admittedly panicked when my mind went blank onstage for a few seconds. But my voice wasn't as sore last night - I've been having throat problems and I've been sick - so I know the piece was projected alot more easily. I thank the audience of last night who actually responded! Thursday night's audience were blank with no response at all and I think it went over most people's heads that night. (They all asked me at school if my character was scitzophrenic (cant spell)) So I got the impression. Friday night's audience laughed at the comic relief side of the piece and gave a decent applause and I was not asked later what my piece meant or was about. So I get the impression they understood it. Which has put more confidence into me as the creator of the piece. The presentation at the end of the show to the directors and stage crew was made by the yr12 students - who both performed and ushered and stage managed. Our director thanked us all and had to mention it was our last show ever - officially - as ECC students. Which I shall add bought tears to a few peoples eyes - including mine. So tired and emotionally drained I return to drama on tuesday to watch our show for the first time - on dvd (we're not sure if they will be a general sale yet or not) - Not as good as live theatre but as close as our class is going to get to seeing each others and the other classes works properly.
