So my mocks are next Thursday morning. So alot of extra time has gone into the preparatino for that and the shows that we are in that week as well.
My Solo Production (SP): "The Story-Keeper"
Blurb: "Everyone has a story. Everyone but Tarsha. As the inspiration to aspiring writer Jennifer, Tarsha is not what she seems. Jennifer breaks the only rule given to her to discover this."
Basically the idea focuses on inspiration and where it comes from. Muses and who/what they are. What effect does a muse have on a writer's life? My character of Tarsha is interesting and quite detailed. She has one simple rule for her "writer" - they mustn't tell her story to anyone in any form. My aspiring writer - Jennifer - is sick of being haunted by the "Story-keeper" and in an attempt to get rid of her breaks this rule but in the process destroys something else. Sort of a dark twist on childhood innocence and the world of adults - reality.
My Monologue: "Mary Warren" from "The Crucible" by Arthur miller
Blurb: The whole town of Salem has gone witch crazy but Mary WArren know's it is all a hoax by a girl named Abigail Williams. Mary get's caught up in the hysteria and is too weak to tell the truth to the courts even with the help of a man named John Proctor.
At this point in the play - classic play - Mary Warren has come home from the town courts after the Proctors - her employers - have forbid her to go. She brings news to them of the proceedings in the town of how the rumours of witchcraft are true and they are hanging women for the same crime. The scene shows hysterical emotion but also is an example of the manipulative nature of the "girls" who are simply "jangling the keys of the kingdom."
Hmm so. . . . That's about it. That is the basis for next weeks' exam. Still nervous but in a good sort of way of course. I'm not expecting comments on this blog but hey comment away if you wish to do so.
