Collector of Lighting Equipment
Tuesday 26 August 2008
I am in the process of beginning a collection of antique theatre lighting.
I already own two 1930's SEECOL groundrows (fully restored) plus a fairly extensive collection of the 1950's 1960's Strand Lanterns. I am seeking prewar theatrical lighting fixtures from any manufacturer. They don't have to be working although I would like to acquire the lamps that were used in these fixtures even if they do not work.
I have also just acquired 3 pre war Strand Pattern 60 floods and 3 prewar profiles also Strand Pattern 43B. They cam with 3 spare lamps Giant Edison Screw E40 500watt incandescents and my multi meter says the bulbs should work.
In essence I am very interested in any prewar lanterns.
I am also interested in photo's of antique lamps in situ.
Postwar lanterns I am interested in any Furse Lanterns (I have one 500w Profile) Aust Lanterns or anything that hasn't got makers plates or appears to be locally or home made.. Some of the Strand Range especially the Patt 23N with the flared lens tube and the Patt 252 effects lantern 243 Fresnel and 264 profile with the two sets of shutters. I would also be interested in any effects wheels to fit the 252 either metal or glass and the motor.
Now we come to money. I can't afford to pay much if anything. After all what I am trying to do is preserve lanterns that otherwise would be scrapped. I am interested in non working as well as working.
I will pay courier and postage costs interstate for interesting items and in SA I am prepared to travel pretty much anywhere to collect items.
I am also interested in old control desks (even non working) and dimmer racks (even non working)
It is my long term intention to attempt to find a home for these restored lanterns where they can be on display permanently preferably in a foyer or gallery in a theatre or performing arts space somewhere. I would also like to display any photo's in the same space.
I would also be interested in old fashioned stands and rigging equipment.
Just because I haven't mentioned them doesn't mean I'm not interested in Kliegl, Altman, Century or even Mole Richardson lanterns.
I can be contacted by PM'ing me on this website or e-mailing at jotony@internode.on.net
