The Manchurian Candidate In 1962 a film called The Manchurian Candidate starring Frank Sinatra and Laurence Harvey was released in the US. The plot involved a young brain washed veteran of the Korean War who was involved in a plot to assassinate the President of the United States. Two years later in 1964 the film was withdrawn because of the assassination of JFK. The film sat on the shelves for nearly thirty years until it was re-released in the early nineties. At the same time a script was produced for a stage play updated to the first Gulf War period. In 2004 a film starring Denzil Washington was made updating the film script to a modern environment and making the enemy a corporation. The play script is a stepping stone in the evolution from the original book through the 1962 film to the 2004 film.
