Solo Productions and Exams
Thursday 3 August 2006
Firstly the Solo production. I believe it could be the ultimate test of an actor. Solo Production you play every part and the audiences focus is entirely on you the whole of the show. Personally I find that rather nerve racking but also it can be quite an achievement.
Has anyone performed in a solo production? Directed or written one before? I'm curious to find out
Secondly: I study TEE Drama Studies and it's nearing that awful time of year. EXAMS!! :jawdrop: EEEK! *cough* Anyway.
In case people don't know the lay out of the practical component of the exam it goes somewhat as follows:
- Enter exam room - 60secs to prepare
- Original solo production (7mins in length)
- 30 seconds to prepare
- Improvisation - (2mins in length)
- 30 seconds to prepare
- Scripted Monologue (3mins in length)
- Oral interview (up to 3 questions)
- Leave exam room - leave vacinity.
Now am I the only one who thinks this is quite a challenge. And I'm not saying this out of nerves because I have to do it in 8wks time. Seriously it is not easy for someone who has up to five other subjects to dedicate exam study to and MOCKS beginning the week after the practical exam.
Looking through university criteria's and programs there is no mention of solo productions or solo pieces of any kind. Is yr12 Drama alot harder then people think it is and make it out to be. Some of my friends - darn mathmatical and scientific people! - (lol nothing against number peoples either . . lol) Laughed at my friend and I when we said we were nervous about our practical drama exams. They think because it doesn't involve complex equations there is little need to study and worry about it. Well who was laughing after we finished explaining it to them? US! of course. The looks on their faces were priceless! Utter shock and admiration!
So has anyone completed yr12 Drama Studies exams? How did they go? If not is anyone preparing for them just as I am? How do you feel about it? Opinions in general are welcome
*sigh* Glad I got that off my chest. Expect more about the exam process as it develops. And if anyone is lucky they may get a peek at my - work in process - solo production which we have to write, direct and act ourselves.
