Remember the government's request for discussion on funding last year?
Thursday 22 November 2007
I just found comments sent in to their discussion here:
http://www.ozco.gov.au/the_arts/features/make_it_new_consultations_on_the_future_of_theatre_funding/discussion_forum_-_may-july_2006
Background: last year the government wanted to know what industry professionals in theatre thought of a national program to help fund Australian theatre, and what is lacking in the industry in terms of government support; and how to better fund the 'development' of local performance art. It particularly considered triennial funding; something most of us will never see (and for those companies like La Mama, will probably never see again), and the role of government/national funding in our industry. It sounded like they either wanted to get rid of the theatre board altogether from the arts council, or to change the way it works. I sent in some comments, and so did several others. The link above shows some of the comments made and makes a very interesting read.
