My Journey to the 2008 Adelaide Festival Fringe
Thursday 11 October 2007
I have decided to do what one or two other people have done before and keep a sort of journal of getting my play on for the 2008 Fringe.
First the play. I thought that I had left the passion of politics behind me but the new anti-sedition and anti-terrorist acts have made me angry. Accordingly I have written a play called Scapegoat. The play (auditions are advertised elsewhere on this site) is about a future in which people can be arrested and held indefinitely without charge. Have we forgotten Dr Haniff yet.
It is my intention to present this play in Adelaide for the Adelaide Festival Fringe. Accordingly I have spent the last week working my way slowly but surely through the on-line registration form. I have until Oct 19th to finalise it. I'm not particularly happy that I have to give all the details of my season this early. We don't open until late February but I can manage I guess. My venue apparently has not yet been approved because the owner has not returned the form he has to fill in but that too is something I am sure we can deal with.
The deposit is paid and the balance is sitting in my bank waiting for the approval of the venue.
The Adelaide Fringe is quite expensive $430.00 to enter this year.
I have decided to be a bit brave. Ticket prices are all one price $15.00 which is about the standard concession price for the Fringe these days and the venue is quite small only seats about 50. I am also offering "Pay What You Can" for students and the unemployed on my two Tuesday night shows. Door tickets only after regulsr bookings are seated.
The poster has been started on it's journey. By know I hope the principal image is on the audition notice.
It is a nervous thing putting one's own play on. And I am the producer as well as everything else. I have no company to fall back on only my friends and colleagues in the business.
All is well so far.
On to the next step, casting.
