"The last of Mrs Cheney" (1925) by Frederick Lonsdale (1881-1954) was a hit running over 500 performances in the initial run. It was filmed three times. The plot revolves around a leading female AUSTRALIAN character, Mrs. Cheyney who is accepted into high British society. She and her butler enjoy a string of secrets. Many good pucker lines and camp riposte among the upper crust.
