Have you ever wanted to be an Angel?
Sunday 28 November 2010
Have you ever wanted to be an Angel but you just don't have the cash? In this case I'm talking about an Angel who is someone who sponsors, or is a patron of, the Arts. Such people do exist but they are few and far between. A lot of theatre just wouldn't get on if it weren't for sponsors, be they government departments, private companies or wealthy individuals. This isn't charity, well not in any pejorative sense, it's patronage in it's purest form. The Arts has never survived without patronage, otherwise known as philanthropy.
And now you....yes, you...can be Micro Angel!
A new phenomenon is trickling through Australia called crowdfunding. People with a passion for the Arts have the opportunity to express their support by giving as little as $1 upwards to an arts project that they like the look of. Often there is a reward associated with the sponsorship, usually an acknowledgement in print or online of their patronage. Sometimes, depending on the project, there may be something more concrete...free tickets, posters signed by participants (actors, etc.), free programs, etc. etc. It all depends on the project. The categories are wide: theatre, film, visual arts, writing, etc. etc. A target is set and, here's a sweetener for you, if the target isn't reached in the time frame allocated then your money is returned. On the other hand, if the target is reached then you have helped a fellow creative soul achieve their dream. To use modern parlance .... "how good is that!?!!"
To find out all about it go to the Fundbreak website at www.fundbreak.com.au
So why have we told you all about this? Other of course than the fact that it's a fantastic idea.
Well, we are trying to set up a small scale publishing and performing rights management company. Moore Books SA. We have registered the company name and set up the website. Now we need to register as a publisher and buy our first 100 ISBN's. You need an ISBN in order to publish a book and get it lodged in the official repositories. We hope to offer a service to Australian Playwrights to get their plays published and to handle performing rights for them. Now don't get me wrong we do intend to make some money from this process but we hope to make more money for the writers than we will for ourselves.
Have a look at our website http://www.moorebooks.net.au
....and if you want to support our local project (Moore Books just what the world needs!) click this link to go directly to http://www.fundbreak.com.au/beta/index.php/archive/index/138/description/0/0
Even as little as $5 will help us to help authors get their work in print!
Cheers,
Tony Moore
