Now the hard work begins!
Wednesday 23 May 2007
Hello everyone,
Time for an update to my blog. You might know now that I'm now deep into working on my latest play 'Boy Banned' which is set to premiere in about 6 weeks or so. Just thought I'd tell you all about what's going on.
It was really maybe only two or three weeks ago (maybe maximum a monthy) that we decided to start work on this project, the first production for our group outside of school. We wanted something that we could have fun with but also tack onto our 'CV's' I guess. We had planned to work on Ultimate Broadway Musical at this time, however we were restrained by time and school- one of us has been told to focus more and a p[roduction like UBWM was going to be too much.
So we proposed a kind of solo show- with some video elements to back it up, about a fallen boy band star. I love having the 'idea sparking' conversations with my fellow star and 'Lazy Creator' Jarrod as we always get a bunch of crazy stuff down and we work from there on.
So I began early scripting work...fleshing out a plot, while at school in free periods we began work on the accompanying songs. The soundtrack now consists of 7 songs which is very exciting. All of them are new songs that we've written and we think fit the boy ban spoof perfectly...they are quite humorous and we are very proud.
So I continued to work on the script. I fell sick with a stomach bug just over a weekl ago so I launched into finishing a first draft, it contained none of the songs as the majority were not written...or someone was too lazy to send me the lyrics. (See why Lazy Creations Group???).
A second draft with the majority of songs (bar two I think) was then made, and after a few free periods of song writing we were in stitches and can't believe how corny we are...and we haven't embarked on dancing yet.
The third draft and final two songs was completed today, and from this draft we are beginning to work on the show. We are all happy with the state of the script...currently, as we haven't workshopped yet, but that will be the final test.
Tomorrow we begin work (in a free period) on the filming for some of the show which is projected on screen...so we've been busy costume hunting tonight which is a lot of fun too.
We can't wait to finally get some of the show down in a form we can begin to work with and mold into the final process.
And it's been an hilarious journey so far...so I can't wait to see how the show forms when it comes to the 'live' stuff. I think it's going to be a really fun show.
So that's where we're at currently...(oh and we're working on getting the theatre booked) I'll make sure to upload this blog when more news happens to keep everyone updated.
Thanks for taking the time to read! And hi to Mrs D and Matt who apparently read my work! *waves*
