Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble AUDITIONS

QSE has an exciting year planned for 2010 - are you part of it? We are pleased to announce that auditions for the 2010 QSE Core Ensemble and Apprenticeship Program will be held on December 5th and 6th. For more information on the Core and Apprenticeship programs, and application requirements, see below.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:
5pm Friday 27th November (mailed applications must be RECEIVED by this date, not postmarked).
AUDITIONS:
Between 2 - 6pm on Sat 5th & Sun 6th December, UQ St Lucia campus. Individual auditions will take approximately 15 minutes.
CALLBACKS:
7th December, !MetroArts Basement Room, 6-11pm.
This will be a group session consisting of voice, Shakespeare, and group work, plus improvisation.
REQUIREMENTS:
Prepare one comic & one dramatic Shakespeare piece of approximately two minutes each (speeches do not need to be age/gender appropriate). Ensure that all required application material (see below) is received by the due date.
CORE ENSEMBLE Applicants for the Core Ensemble will be skilled actors with a passion for performing Shakespeare and a strong desire and capacity for being part of an artist-managed ensemble. The Core Ensemble, as its name suggests, is the backbone of QSE and drives its artistic and business activities. Applicants for the Core Ensemble should be familiar with QSE's work and activities, and ideally would have some previous experience with our training or similar methodologies (e.g. Linklater voice method, Theatre of the Oppressed, personal connection to text in non-naturalistic styles). The ideal core ensemble member would be: * passionate for performing Shakespeare * committed to QSE's work and training * a skilled and energetic actor * able to receive and incorporate feedback into their practice * able to balance artistic and business/administrative tasks * able to fill a gap in QSE's current skill profile * a team player * committed to the long-term advancement of QSE and theatre in Qld
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Applicants for the apprenticeship program do not need any previous experience performing Shakespeare. The ideal apprentice is a theatre artist of any age who wants to enrich their craft by immersion in classical text and its performance. Apprentices receive extensive training in the Linklater voice method, Theatre of the Oppressed, and QSE's approaches to acting and working with classical text, and also gain exposure to a range of activities and tasks involved in mounting productions and running a theatre company. The apprenticeship program is ideally suited to emerging artists. Costs: $600 for the year (plus $15 membership), which includes: * Stradbroke Island week-long residential training intensive * Actor Training: o Speaking Shakespeare in your Own Voice course o Linklater Voice course (Parts 1 & 2) o Advanced Actor Training (with the core ensemble) * One-on-one mentorship and coaching * Regular meetings with the Artistic Director * Opportunities to be involved with a number of aspects in the life of the company, including performance A scholarship of $500 will be made available for one successful and eligible applicant, reducing the cost to $100 plus membership. In order to be eligible for the scholarship you need to be entering your final year of studies at an Australian university or have graduated from an Australian university in the last two years.
CRUCIAL DATES FOR APPLICANTS Before applying please check that you would be able to commit to the following compulsory (and fun!) 2010 core ensemble and apprentice activities: Residential Training and Kick-off Intensive at Stradbroke Island: Thurs 28th Jan - Mon 1st Feb plus arrival and departure time. Advanced Ensemble Training: Monday nights 6-10pm, 15th Feb - 29th March. QSE holds its meetings on Sunday evenings (Core Ensemble third Sunday of each month, Apprentices first Sunday of odd-numbered months). Core ensemble only: planning meeting are held from 6-7pm fortnightly on Sundays throughout the year. Core ensemble members are expected to attend at least 80% of these meetings.
APPLICATIONS Applications will be accepted by electronic or hard copy, but please be sure that your application includes all required documentation, or it cannot be accepted. All documents in your application must be sent together in EITHER electronic or hard copy form (we cannot accept applications that have been partly sent by email and partly by post). Applications should include: Your head-shot Your acting CV A non-acting CV or a short description of your non-acting experience that outlines your administrative, managerial, marketing and/or computer skills A one-page cover letter that: clearly states whether you are auditioning for the Core, Apprentice Program, or both; includes contact details, specifically mobile and home phone numbers and an e-mail address; indicates if you have a preference for a particular audition time; details why you would like to work specifically with QSE; assesses your strengths and challenges as an actor For apprenticeship applications, please also indicate whether you are eligible for the scholarship.
