My endlessly repeated journeys to the Adelaide Festival Fringe.

Sunday 18 October 2009

I recently sat down and thought about it seriously and realised that I have been involved as an artist in the Adelaide Festival Fringe (now Fringe Festival) since the mid 1970's. I can't remember exactly which was my first fringe and doubt that records still exist anywhere but I do know that I have been directly involved as actor writer presenter or technician in every Adelaide Festival Fringe since 1984 except for the three that happened while I lived in England. 12000 miles is a long way to come. That actually, although I didn't notice it at the time, means that 2009 was my 25th anniversary, now that's scary. Look I doubt that I am the only one in this position so please don't think I'm bragging I just thought it was interesting. I bring this up as I have just started on my annual journey once again. Please find "Jane was 16 yesterday!" on this site. That's only a part of the story however as mine and my partner's company Spotlight Theatre Co is also co producing two other shows in the fringe. In addition I will be working with the Puppet Palace as Tech Manager and operating lights for at least one magic show. Interestingly enough having thought my life as a performer was over I seem to have re-invented myself as a puppeteer and very bad ventriloquist and will be appearing in a limited number of performances as the narrator of Pigs in Wigs with my offsider Pedro. I hope I survive. I am a little disappointed that my good friends from Osaka Theatre Group Gumbo will not be at the 2010 Fringe. I will miss them greatly. I am looking forward to the ups and downs of the next few months watch out for the other shows as we finalise the publicity and get them up on site.
