Playlovers Inc in Floreat are proud to present "Seussical" a Broadway musical featuring characters from many of the beloved Dr. Seuss children's classics.
"Seussical" was co-conceived by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Eric Idle, with music by Flaherty and lyrics by Ahrens. The show celebrates Dr. Seuss' incomparable stories and provides lively entertainment.
This show is "Dr Seuss for grownups", but if the kids insist on coming along they'll have a great time as the show is suitable for all ages.
"Seussical" follows the adventures of Horton, an elephant who one day hears voices coming from a speck of dust. He soon discovers that the tiny speck contains the smallest planet on the universe, upon which lives a tiny race of creatures known as Whos. Horton is ridiculed by the other animals in the Jungle of Nool for stubbornly believing in something he can't see.
"Most of the show is sung", said director Kimberley Shaw. "Caroline Badnall, the musical director, is doing a fabulous job. The music is varied and exciting and Caroline is doing a brilliant thing with the vocal direction. The cast sing superbly, which is an added bonus. Seussical is about overcoming odds and being proud of your own ideas, no matter who or what you are".
The dynamic and innovative choreography for "Seussical" has been set masterfully by Claire French, and Terry McAuley, the costume designer has had ample opportunity to stretch his imagination with colourful, lively and fantastic costumes.
The enthusiastic 38 strong cast prove that no one really outgrows Dr. Seuss stories. Drew Elliot portrays the Cat in the Hat. Drew last performed for Playlovers in the highly acclaimed Pageant. Another veteran of Pageant, Alex McLennan, plays Horton the Elephant, while nine year old Madeleine Shaw, plays JoJo, the little Who.
Vicki Kirkman plays the delightfully awkward Gertrude, Sour Kangaroo is played by Breeahn Jones, and Kira Morsley plays Mayzie La Bird.
