Some Shiny Days is an original play with music by Shepparton News columnist John Lewis. It's based on his book Some Shiny Days published in 2001 under the subtitle Moments of Ordinary Madness - A Fatherhood.
For the play, John has pieced together a collection of his columns and threaded them through with music and song, to tell the story of one man's journey into fatherhood. It begins with the impending birth of Jack's first child, and continues through the routines of family life - mealtimes, holidays, temper tantrums, fishing, footy and the never-ending question 'Why?' As the play progresses we see his children SweetP and Bump grow from toddlers to teenagers. Along the way, Jack learns the power of the cliche 'Children Change Everything', and as he crashes through the weird and fabulous continent of Fatherland, he discovers the inevitable secret truth - there is no map.
