Political Intrigue has not changed much from 400 years ago in Shakespeare's time or 500 years before that in historical Macbeth’s time. The modern story of Gillard and Rudd is a replay of Whitlam and Fraser which is an echo of Macbeth and Duncan with Shakespeare as the ultimate spin doctor.
Macbeth-hero or villain? This play attempts to let the real Macbeth speak for himself. Yet what do we really know about him apart from what Shakespeare tells us? Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” echoes across the centuries as a powerful pervading myth that eats away at reality. What chance does the real man have of telling his story when confronted by this amorphous monster?
In this retelling the real battle is not with Duncan but with Shakespeare’s play itself as Macbeth, all but consumed by the myth, struggles to be heard.
In 500 years time how are our current politicians going to be remembered? Will they be?
