Charles Dickens’s Scrooge given the panto treatment in this version of ‘A Christmas Carol’. The story is set in Scrooge’s Chocolate Factory and follows the rotten behaviour of Scrooge, towards his downtrodden staff led by reluctant shop-steward Bob Cratchit. It’s Christmas Eve and Scrooge is being his usual miserable self, as he rants at his workers for having putting up Christmas decorations. He threatens them all with the sack, including the factory cook Jan Butty. Two charity workers appear and cause Scrooge to suffer a near-fatal heart attack by asking him for money. And when his kind Nephew Fred invites him to Christmas lunch, his kind offer is curtly dismissed. But strange things begin to happen in the factory and Jan bumps into the ghost of Scrooge’s late partner, Jacob Marley. Scrooge puts her sighting down to too much Christmas sherry, little knowing that he is about to be visited by not one, but three ghosts. After the ghosts show him his past present and future, Scrooge eventually sees the error of his ways and makes an emotional change for the better.
