Venue Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (Fishtrap Theatre) Details Mandurah Little Theatre presents The sell-out play ‘The Starting Stalls’ by Cate Smith and directed by Karen Francis is coming to the Mandurah stage in May. Adults Only (16+), Politically Incorrect, Coarse Language, Adult Content. Many will remember it as a comedy, whilst others connected with the variety of girls living in the notorious Kalgoorlie brothel will see it as reality. The authenticity of the play has been well documented as the playwright, Cate Smith took up, for research purposes, residence in a brothel in Kalgoorlie whilst writing this fly-on-the-wall play revealing the daily trials of life as a Prostitute, whether short of customers or too many to handle. This play will take you through the roller coaster of emotions from immediate shock, comedy and finally caring for the girls of the house. Played by theatre regular Sky Ogier, Suzy the biker chick is the youngest who would rather be at home with her fella but has to carve out a living for her illegitimate daughter. Returning to the stage is Veronica Turner-Gaitskell as an experienced hooker who loves to lick a lollipop whilst dressed as a school girl. Audiences will be seduced by the fluent French speaking girl of the night Anna. Anna is played but yet another previous cast member Diana Oliver. All three actresses were delighted to be called upon to take up their previous character roles. Joining them on stage will be Corrie Jacob, no stranger to controversial roles, who will shock you into liking her in the part of Charlotte. Supporting roles by Judi Johnson & Tracy Bolton. This play could never be described as suitable for the faint hearted but is definitely a guaranteed winner amongst audience members who can see behind the risky comments, enjoy the challenges faced in a brothel and may have fond memories of Kalgoorlie. Don’t worry men, if the memories are all too vivid you can always say it was ‘your mate Fred’ that told you all about it!
