“The Lesson" #93
Mid 1976
The third play "The Lesson" by Eugene Ionesco directed by Harry Postema, was I believe written as a protest against the French education system, which at that time treated the students as though their heads were elastic bags in which was stuffed as much material as possible.
In the event the performance was a 'tour de fome', with David Mitchell as the professor, T. ably supported by two young players, Lisa Haskett as the student and Sue Curtis as the maid. A great display of theatrical virtuosity and a most suitable entry for a drama festival. I wondered however if it was relevant to a Millicent audience in 1976, as I observed several older supporters of the Company enjoying a quiet doze.
