Harbour Theatre, Fremantle's only and original community theatre for 50 years,
is proud to present for our first production for our Golden Jubilee Year,
"A Night In Provence"
By Robin Hawdon
Directed by Nicola Bond
(A Community Theatre Production By Arrangement with Origin (TM) Theatrical)
When three couples, English, French and Irish mistakenly end up in a luxury villa in Provence coupled with copious amounts of champagne, heightened sexual impulses and ingrained cultural differences, the European Union could well implode! A story of how a meticulously planned holiday can go so hilariously wrong! There is nothing like a good belly laugh to get Harbour Theatre’s 50th Anniversary year off to a great start!
No-one does comedy as well as the British and “A NIGHT IN PROVENCE” being the latest hilarious romp from the master of comedy, renowned British playwright Robin Hawdon (Don’t Dress for Dinner, Shady Business, Perfect Wedding), is no exception.
No stranger to Robin Hawdons’ side-splitting comedies, award winning director Nicola Bond is thrilled to be directing the Australian premiere for Harbour Theatre’s first season for 2013.
“Following the hugely successful Harbour productions “Shady Business” and “Perfect Wedding” also by Robin Hawdon, “A Night in Provence” is the perfect way to begin this milestone year for Harbour Theatre. Playing to rave reviews in the UK and Germany and with a laugh a minute, whatever troubles you bring with you into the theatre, you are sure to forget them, at least for a couple of hours!” says director Nicola Bond.
The outstanding comic talent of the cast which includes Michael Dornan (Shady Business, Perfect Wedding, The 39 Steps) has been cast as Cockney Fred who, with his wife Judy played by Tina Barker (Ladies Day, Ladies Down Under), arrive at a luxury villa in Provence for the holiday of a lifetime where they are to meet their Irish friends Shaun (played by Marcus McGavock) and Moira (Ann Speicher (Ladies Day, Ladies Down Under, We’ll Always Have Paris).
Before the holiday can begin however, the French owners of the villa Maurice played by Rob Tagliaferri (We’ll Always Have Paris) and Yvette (Chloerissa Eadie (The Ash Girl), also arrive for their annual holiday and find themselves having to share this glamorous location.
As if their cultural differences weren't enough, the unlikely sextet happens to have plenty of sparkling champagne on hand to loosen both tongues and inhibitions. Will their marriages survive the day, the night, and the moonlit swimming pool on the terrace? The effects of sun, wine and skinny dipping becomes a test of the European Union. Or could this be part of an ingenious plan by the owners to rid themselves of their unwanted guests?
Bond says “with a cast of audience favourites who are experts at comic timing this is another sure fire hit from one of my most preferred comedy writers”.
