MISS JULIE
By August Strindberg
In a new version by Cristabel Sved and Kate Box
Miss Julie is a woman exploding out of her century, raging against the impositions of class, gender and the damage of her upbringing.
In this bold new adaptation of Strindberg's most famous tragedy, this timeless play is brought forward in a stark and contemporary setting. Set on the estate of a Swedish count on midsummer eve, Miss Julie, the Count’s daughter, Jean, her father’s and most faithful attendant and Kristen the cook enter a dangerous and irreversible game. Boundaries are crossed, rules are broken and the impossible is imagined in this startling dance of death.
On the 100th anniversary of August Strindberg’s death, Director CRISTABEL SVED (The Business, Before/After, The Beauty Queen of Leenane) and actor KATE BOX (Rake, Offspring, Food, The Business) bring their energetic new version of Miss Julie to the Darlinghurst Theatre.
